Made To Be Broken
Made To Be Broken is a children’s book about rule-breaking and finding your own creative voice. From a young age, people are taught a formal way of thinking and strict guides for what is right and wrong. As we grow up, it’s important to value your own voice and creative direction no matter what field we are in. Made To Be Broken is a book for every young learner.
This book is inspired by Edward Fella’s design principle: “rules are meant to be broken”.
To make the book more widely accessible, the book is also published through ISSUU for people to access the content online. https://issuu.com/caitlinlu/docs/ed_fella_book_new_

The story begins with Ed feeling defeated about his creative design being rejected at work. In the world that Ed lives in, following the rules is and being strict in his design is the norm. When he goes on a walk, he meets Liberty who shows him a new world where being creative and out of the box is okay and celebrated.

Edward Fella is an inspiration, coining himself as an “exit artist”, he designs freely and to his own imagination and liking. Using elements from his poster, I focused on creating new forms through replicating and building characters and objects from letterforms.
